Introduction To Systems Impact Matrix

The Systems Impact Matrix page contains a diagram showing the way Releases impact, or pose a regression risk to, Systems.

The Systems Impact Matrix only shows Releases which have an implementation date that is up to six months in the future.

Users set the relationship between Systems and the Release. This is done in the Systems tab when editing a Release in the View/Edit Release pop up. The relationship can be:

Once dragged into a System Subtype and saved, the System will appear with their Releases in the Systems Impact Matrix, as long as the Release has an implementation date that in the future (up to six months in the future).

One Systems Subtype represents Regression Verification Dependency and the others impacted functionality.  The two custom Subtypes can only be viewed if enabled in System Subtypes customization.

The two default Systems Subtypes appear under the Systems tab of the following kinds of Releases:

Project and Independent Releases will be displayed. Where they have an associated Enterprise Release, the data will aggregate up to the Enterprise Release.

To use the Systems Impact Matrix:

  1. Click Legend to view what the color of each box means.

  2. Manage Query Builder:
    Query Builder allows users to create and save their own private searches and use public searches. (Users must have the Create/Delete System Public Query Builder user permission to create, edit or delete public queries.)

    1. Click the right side Query Builder Screen Shot 2017-04-18 at 4.31.52 PMbutton to open the quick access menu, which lists private and public queries.
    2. To use Query Builder, click the funnel-shaped button Screen Shot 2017-04-18 at 4.32.52 PM on the Systems Impact Matrix. See Manage Query Builder for more information.
  3. Type your search query into the Live Search field. Your search results will appear as you type.
    Press Enter to immediately perform the search.
  4. Manage the Quick Filter:

    1. Use the Search Release Name combo box to search, multi-select, and filter by Release Names.
    2. Click to select the Show Releases with Systems in common checkbox to show:
      1. Primary Result: The Release selected in Search Release Name. (This filter only works if one Release is selected.)
      2. Secondary Results: Releases that have at least one System in common (in other words, that overlap with) the selected Release.
      3. The filter works in the following way:
        • Say that:
          • Project Release 1 has System A and D.
          • Project Release 2 has System B.
          • Project Release 3 has System A.
          • Project Release 4 has System B and A.
        • When a user searches for Project Release 1:
          • Project Release 1 will be the primary result.
          • Project Releases 3 and 4 will be the secondary results.
          • Project Release 2 and System B will not appear as they are not linked to Project Release 1.
    3. Use the Search System Name combo box to search, multi-select, and filter by System Names.
    4. Click the Show by Organization Name toggle switch to toggle between:
      • System Name, or Release ID and Name
      • System Portfolio Organization.
    5. Click one of the Show Total by radio buttons to choose how totals are calculated:
      • Number of Changes (# Changes).
      • Number of Systems and Releases (# Systems).
        Enterprise Releases are not counted in the totals, only their child Releases are counted.
    6. Click one or more of the Show Projects/Releases checkboxes to filter by:
      • Enterprise Releases.
      • Independent Releases.
      • Project Releases.
    7. Click one of the Show Release Information by radio buttons to make Releases be shown by:
      • Name only.
      • ID only.
      • Both Name and ID.
    8. Click one of the Dependencies display style radio buttons to display cells with more than one item by:

        • Hover your mouse cursor to view the hidden shapes.
        • This view cannot be printed.
      • Stretch:

        • All squares are visible.
        • This view can be printed.
    9. Click Apply Filter to close the pop up and apply the filters.
  5. Click Switch X/Y to swap the way data is displayed on the X and Y columns.
    For example, if System Name is being displayed in the header, clicking Switch X/Y  will move it to the left-hand column.
  6. Click the Filter By buttons to filter by:
    • My Portfolio Association: Show releases for your portfolio association. Check which portfolio association you belong to in Settings.
    • I’m a Stakeholder: Show releases for which you are a stakeholder.
    • All: Show all releases.
  7. Click … More Tools to:

    1. Export to XLS: Click Export to XLS to download the data on the screen as an XLS file.
    2. Export to PDF: Click Export to PDF to download the screen as a PDF.
    3. Print: Click Print to open the browser’s print pop up. The PDF of the data is printed. Only Spread view prints, Stack view cannot be printed.
    4. Full Screen: Click Full Screen to toggle between the normal and full screen views.
