Environment Group Custom Fields appear under the Additional Information tab when adding or editing an Environment Group.
Location of Environment Group Custom Fields
To locate the Environment Group Custom Fields:
- Go to Environment > Groups.
- Click to open an Environment Group.
- The Environment Group Custom Fields are located under the Additional Information tab.
Add or Edit an Environment Group Custom Field
To add or edit an Environment Group Custom Field:
- Go to Settings
> Customization > Environments.
- Add or edit:
- Add:
- Click Add Field.
- Edit:
- Click to select the Environment Group Custom Field.
- Click Edit Field.
- Add:
- Type the Environment Group Custom Field under the Value column.
Custom Fields with double quotes ” or square brackets [] in the Value cannot be added to Plutora Analytics workbooks. - Double click the Description column and type the Description.
- Click to select one of the following Description Display radio buttons:
If Description is blank, nothing will display, even if a radio button is selected.- As Tooltip: The description will appear as a tooltip when users hover their mouse cursor over the i button beside the custom field label.
- Under Label: The description will appear as text under the custom field label. The description will also appear as a tooltip when users hover their mouse cursor over the description.
- As Tooltip: The description will appear as a tooltip when users hover their mouse cursor over the i button beside the custom field label.
- Double click the Data Type column and select the Data Type of the field from the drop-down menu:
- Date Picker: A calendar. (Date format is controlled by the Localization Customization.)
- List Field: A drop-down menu, which contains items that are created in Environment Group Custom Lists Customization.
- Free Text: A single line free text field.
- Time Picker: A time slider.
- Number: A number with or without decimal places. (Number format is controlled by the Localization Customization.)
- Decimal: A number with a customizable number of decimal places. (Decimal format is controlled by the Localization Customization.)
- Currency: A currency field with a $, £, € and a custom number of decimal points. (Currency format is controlled by the Localization Customization.)
- Date Time Picker: A calendar with a time slider. (Date format is controlled by the Localization Customization.)
- List Select: A combo box, which contains items that are created in Environment Group Custom Lists Customization.
- Manage Field Permissions: Field Permissions set the view, edit, and hide permissions for each field:
- Click the checkbox beside Access Permissions to activate permissions.
- Click Access Permissions.
- Select from the Select the permission type you would like to change drop-down menu:
- View Custom Field permission:
- Users with this permission can view and edit the field.
- The field is completely hidden to users without this permission.
- View Custom Field overrides the other two permissions. If a user has View Custom Field permission, no other users will be able to see the field, even if those other users have View Value or Edit Value permissions.
- If User 1 has View Value permission on a field, User 2 has Edit Value permission, and User 3 has View Custom Field permission:
- View Value permission:
- If User 1 has the View Value permission and no other user has been given permissions:
- If User 1 has the View Value permission and User 2 is given Edit Value permission:
- Edit Value permission:
- If User 1 has this permission, they can view and edit the field.
- Users without any permissions can view the field but not edit it. (The field will be grayed out.)
- If User 2 is given the View Custom Field permission, only User 2 will be able to see the field.
- View Custom Field permission:
- Select from the By: drop-down menu:
- Individual: Click to select the checkboxes of one or more users.
- Organization: Click to select the checkboxes of one or more organizations or Portfolio Associations.
- Role: Click to select the checkboxes of one or more roles.
- User Group: Click to select the checkboxes of one or more User Groups.
- Click Save & Close.
- Click Submit.
The yellow Your changes have been saved pop up opens and closes.
If you click away from the Customization page without clicking Submit, your changes will not save.
Bulk Update Permissions
To update the permissions of two or more Environment Group Custom Fields at once:
- Go to Settings
> Customization > Environments.
- Click Environment Group Custom Fields.
- Click to select two or more of the checkboxes in the left-hand column.
The Bulk Update Permissions button will be grayed out until two or more checkboxes are selected. - Click Bulk Update Permissions.
- Select from the Select the permission type you would like to change drop-down menu:
- View Value: Field is always visible but users without the permission see a padlock.
- Edit Value: Field is always visible and users with the permission can edit the field.
- View Custom Field: Field is completely hidden to users without the permission.
If a user lacks permission to see any of the fields in a tab, they will now be unable to see that tab.

- Select from the By: drop-down menu:
- Individual: Click to select the checkboxes of one or more users.
- Organization: Click to select the checkboxes of one or more organizations or Portfolio Associations.
- Role: Click to select the checkboxes of one or more roles.
- User Group: Click to select the checkboxes of one or more User Groups.
- Click Save & Close.
Sort Environment Group Custom Fields
Sort Manually
Sorting Environment Group Custom Fields manually changes their order in drop-down menus.
To sort Environment Group Custom Fields manually:
- Go to Settings
> Customization > Environments.
- Click Environment Group Custom Field.
- Hover your mouse cursor over the sort column.
The sort handle (six gray dots) appears.
- Left click and drag the sort handle to resort the Environment Group Custom Field.
- Click Submit.
The yellow Your changes have been saved pop up opens and closes.
If you click away from the Customization page without clicking Submit, your changes will not save.
Sort by Column Header
Sorting Environment Group Custom Fields by column header only changes their order on the Customization page.
To sort alphabetically on the Customization page by column header:
- Go to Settings
> Customization > Environments.
- Click Environment Group Custom Field.
- Click a column header.
The Environment Group Custom Fields will revert to their previous order when you click away from the Customization page.
Delete a Environment Group Custom Field
Deleting an Environment Group Custom Field will not delete it from Plutora. But it will no longer be available when creating a new Environment.
To delete an Environment Group Custom Field:
- Go to Settings
> Customization > Environments.
- Click Environment Group Custom Field.
- Click to select the Environment Group Custom Field.
- Click Delete Field.
- Click Submit.
The yellow Your changes have been saved pop up opens and closes.
If you click away from the Customization page without clicking Submit, your changes will not save.
