Bulk Upload Test Cases

The Bulk Upload Test Cases feature allows users to upload Test Cases and their Test Steps from Excel (.xlsx) files.

Use small Excel files to reduce the risk of only uploading part of the data due to a loss of Internet connection or your computer crashing.  Chrome browser or IE 10+ are recommended.

    1. Test Cases can now be imported with associations to existing Requirements:
External ID will be renamed Requirement ID.

      1. Supply the existing Requirements’ External ID (or Requirement ID) or Requirement Name in the Excel file.
      2.  External ID (or Requirement ID) and Requirement Name data are validated in the following way:
        • If both External ID and Requirement Name data are supplied, Bulk Upload will look for an exact match of both in existing Requirements.
        • If an exact match of both cannot be found, it will give a warning and look for:
          • An exact match of External ID, and if that is not found, then
          • An exact match of Requirement Name.
        • If neither External ID (or Requirement ID) or Requirement Name are found in existing Requirements, Bulk Upload will warn the user that the data cannot be associated.
        • Bulk Upload also checks that the existing Requirement is associated with the selected Test Plan.
      3. Associate Test Cases with multiple existing Requirements by:
        1. Creating blank rows below the Test Case for each Requirement.
        2. Filling in only the External ID (or Requirement ID) or Requirement Name in that row.

  4. Upload your .xlsx files to Plutora Test:
The Excel files must be under 10 MB in size and have the same data mapping pattern. If present, the Priority field values should be from 1 to 5, with 1 meaning High Priority.

    1. Drop your .xlsx files containing your Test Cases and Test Steps onto the circled gray area.

    2. Select Column Mapping if the data is arranged in columns:
      column-mapping-example

      • The data must be arranged so that each Test Case is listed with its Steps, Actions, and Expected Results (as seen above, click the image to enlarge).
      • The Bulk Uploader reads down the Test Case Name column and treats each non-blank cell as a new Test Case, so each Test Case Name, Description, Pre-Condition, and so on must be written only once, and only the Test Steps, Actions, and Expected Results columns should have data on every row.
      • Repeating the same Test Case Name, Description, and so on will cause that Test Case to be added multiple times with a different Test Step in each one.
  6. If you select Cell Mapping:
    1. Click the Select button below Cell Mapping.
    2. Click to select the project or release that the data will go into from the Select a release/project drop down menu.
